interesting pair. I’ll vote Olds. 👍

Garish, gaudy, over-the-top. Yeah, pretty much both of them. I voted tie.
The Olds just looks so big and out of place. I went with the Edsel.
I'm also not a fan of either, but I do find the Edsel's side treatment interesting. Meanwhile the Oldsmobile ranks at the top of GM's worst hits, so Edsel It is.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Too much clutter on both but I give the nod to that Edsel wagon.
If you're going to outrage the neighbourhood you may as well do it properly - Edsel!
On reflection, I really like the Edsel - the only Edsel I've ever actually thought worthwhile, so thank-you John. I shall now go check-out other Edsel wagons.
I don't like either but I picked the Olds because it has a hardtop look to it as I see no "B" pillar. I could be mistaken but I think the vertical piece I see is the glass frame. Steve
Yeah, you said it all (although you might have thrown in "grotesque" while you were at it). Equal ranking at zero points apiece.Garish, gaudy, over-the-top. Yeah, pretty much both of them. I voted tie.
Actually I quite liked the basic Edsel, in an odd sort of way, but this one is just a mess. Whereas the Olds is an ugly mess. (Maybe they could have improved it with some fake wood trim on the lower flanks, hood and roof?)

@100ford2003 What an amazing observation: imagine a hard-top station-wagon with wind-down rear screen. Family vacations could be transformed!
Steve, I found this + the hard-top with rear wheel covers is amazing.
Both butt ugly! Not fond of station wagons either, to me they were family work vehicles. Absolutely no interest in either. 1958 the year of American UGLYS.The only car I liked the style of was the Thunderbird.

I believe Mercury had one too. I'm not sure what year it was. Could have been a 58 or 59. I remember seeing one at a car show over 25 years ago. But at 71yrs and so many car shows that my youngest brother and I have been to, I could be wrong. Steve
I did a google search and there's a beautiful '58 Olds wagon with all the door windows down. It looks great as a 4dr hrdtop ! Steve
LMAO... I don't think there's any way that fake wood could have improved that Olds wagon.. not even real wood would help !Yeah, you said it all (although you might have thrown in "grotesque" while you were at it).
