I know, if nothing good to say, say nothing. But I dislike '59 styling for both, don't care for station wagons, don't care for phony wood siding [might look good on a shed].
The Merc by a big margin for me. I love the hardtop styling as David stated. I also think the Merc has a more sophisticated presence to it.
I prefer the front end styling over the Fords. I don't like the overly large round pods at the bumpers edges. I also like the Merc's tailight treatment
As '59 cars go, not too keen on either. The Mercury, quite nice as a sedan, is horribly over-dressed as a woodie. The Ford takes a slight edge for being less over-elaborate, but that deep slab of fake wood on the side looks very heavy and gloomy. Maybe a bit more paint and a bit less wood on the lower flanks would have made it look lighter?
I liked them both but perhaps I would give a slight edge to the big Mercury. The 1959 Mercury Parklane makes a really superb 1/18 SunStar diecast replica and I have a coupe and convertible of that one.

I have the 1:18 scale SUNSTAR '59 Mercury. Great model.

Hmm, now that is a very interesting suggestion and rendering. But I'm still going with the Mercury.
