Nobody was on their game more than Pontiac in the mid 60's. They were definitely hitting on all cylinders. It's sad they ended the way it did. I'll never forgive GM for killing Pontiac. I'd owned Pontiacs from the very day I got my license, right up to the end. I'd had a Pontiac in my garage. But I've not bought GM since Pontiac was killed. Never will. Sorry for the rant guys, but I'm still pissed over it.😡
No hesitation here... the Pontiac by miles ! I've always disliked the '64 Ford. The bumpers are too big and the body styling is fat and frumpy looking to me.

FYI, My response to Burse
Hard to compare two different price point cars, the Pontiac is one place higher on the price point and thus should be a bit nicer. And it is.
Pontiac please.
Bruce, not too much difference in price points.
1964 MSRP base price for a Ford Galaxy XL Convertible was $3,495
1964 MSRP base price for a Pontiac Catalina Convertible was $3,185
The Pontiac is $310 less than the Ford.

@geno I understand your rant Geno, I was also pissed when Pontiac was axed. Just doing some mental ciphering I’m figuring I’ve owned about 10 Pontiacs over my lifetime, most of them for fun. For utility, probably about the same or more Chevy’s with a couple of other brands thrown in, mostly GM. I didn’t throw the baby away with the bath water because I’ve always liked my Buicks and Old’s and even my German Opel’s, and I can’t imagine ever wanting an Asian automobile. (No offense meant to anyone, just a personal thing) Anyhoo, I pick the Poncho by a landslide!
@kevins Yeah, I understand Kev. As far as newer vehicles, short of the Corvette, and the V series Caddy sedans, GM has nothing I would care to buy. The Caddys AND Corvette are too pricey for me, lol. Not to mention my old bones trying to get in and out of said vehicles.😲🤦
Both are very attractive mid-Sixties automobiles and could be equipped with strong V-8 engines under the hood. I have a diecast replica of the Galaxie but not yet a full-size Pontiac from that year.

Hey, I feel your pain. But my rant and disappointment is over GM killing OLDSMOBILE. I owned many Oldsmobile's back in the day, it was my car of choice. Since GM killed it off, I've not owned a GM car, and I never will. There was, in my opinion, no reason to kill either Pontiac or Oldsmobile. What GM should have done was eliminate the 19 different models within both lines. All they needed was a lower end version and a higher end version of each car.

@georgeschire I agree, George. I don't consider price either. I do consider handling, drive-train, and the interior as well as styling. The pictures presented mean nothing to me [color or skirts] as I consider the actual car, I'm not judging photographs, they only tell which model car to consider.
My favorite GMC division was Pontiac, followed by Oldsmobile. I never cared for Chevrolets, disliked Buicks, and Cadillac didn't exist for me, along with all other luxury cars; I could see no use for them.
Love both the Ford and the Pontiac...going with the Pontiac.
Gents, thanks for your responses!
