The iconic Mustang. Its proportions are much better, and it's a legend.

Happy New Year to you and to all!

These two are closer than most think. Both cars were built on a warmed-over mid-size to compact platform. Both wanted to be daring and stylish without their makers spending a fortune on dedicated tooling. Both were intended for a younger audience. Both were relatively affordable and had small interiors with even smaller back seats. For me, the Mustang hit the bullseye on all counts and managed to look fresh and new while doing it. The Barracuda looks great, but its Valiant lineage is apparent.

Back in the day the Mustang GT coupe would have won this comparison easily, but in the last decade the early Barracuda design has really grown on me.  If this was a 2&2 Stang it would win easily but the GT coupe makes it much closer to a tie.  However I am and will always be a Mustang freak so it gets the nod today.

If the Mustang was the fastback I might have picked it.  But I love the fastback designs on the Mopars in 66-67.

I really like both of these and the 1966 Mustang has always been a car that I would have liked to own, but never did. The Barracuda is a fantastic for the time effort by Chrysler, and this time, I give it the nod. Can I have both?

Falcon vs Valiant with different cloths on.  Mustang moved on to a "pony car" from a compact while Barracuda stayed a compact.  Barracuda really didn't became a "pony car" until '70. Never cared for the first gen Mustangs '64.5 - '66  or the first gen Barracuda '64 - '66, liked their second generation offerings.

I'll take the Barracuda taller easier to get into & out of, better drive train, better suspension.  Fastback Mustang would have won for looks.

The Mustang is my choice also. I really didn't care for the barracuda until the new design in '67. The hardtop was really my favorite design of the three models available.

Love both, but it's the Mustang with the more traditional design that gets my vote.

@100ford2003 Steve; I have always liked the look of the huge, wrap around rear window feature of the early Cudas.  Just imagine the replacement cost of this window! Although I also like the 67-'69 version, I found the rear window change made the rear quarters look a bit bulky in comparison.  Like JK mentioned, it was basically just a tweaked Valiant design but it impressed me because its aggressive fastback effect and huge greenhouse was so very different.  I recall that as teenagers my group of car buddies were quite polarized about the look.  I should also mention that I really found the '67 coupe to be an attractive design.

I was surprised at the design change from 66 to 67. It was almost like where in the heck did that new design come from ? It just was a helluva great looking car. I'd rather have a 67 Barracuda coupe instead of a 67stang.
