@perrone1 Now I’m echoing you Tony. In my younger years I also didn’t like the ‘56 but as I aged I started appreciating it more and more. The side trim, the rear wheel openings, as you stated,
and the beautifully complex taillights made the ‘55 look rather plain. I guess wisdom doe’s come with age! (Although in my case, very little.)
I'm in solid agreement with you Kevin, I realized later, that in Chevy's attempt to 'update' their massively new '55 (over the dated '54) that besides the wheel well openings, the rest had to sync-in-style. So as the teardrop wheel opening dropped, so did the chrome strip/color break. That offered a stronger, higher-looking rear and the minimalistic taillights from the '55 would have looked lonely. So the more 'complicated' version, as Bruce mentions, were used. It's easy to understand his points but comes down to individual tastes. The grille on the '56 is more of a slim and horizontal design that still encapsulates the crate grille, but unlike the Ferrari-esque nature of the first tri-five, the '56's is wider and offers a home environment for the parking lights instead of leaving them out in the cold. The '57's is just too massive for my taste.
