Forgetting all facets of automotive design and mechanicals, I'm voting strictly on looks today. Yep, the Ford moves into the future fifties with it's '49, dropping the ponton fender design. The Chevy and Plymouth retain the slightly bulbous rear ponton fender styling.
But I am just not a fan of the squared-off shoebox design. The Plymouth, to me, has a good looking, cohesive and pleasing look and that's my vote today.
The iconic and future looking Ford. Chevy next.

Going with the Ford, those taillights are very cool 😎. That Chevy look lasted and still looks good. Nothing wrong with the Plymouth it just doesn’t push the cool button for me. ✌️

Love the 49-50 Fords, so it gets my vote.
Ford had lots of quality problems with the 49 but corrected them with the nearly identical 50 models. Al three cars shown here would be more than welcomed in my garage. All three had new styling for 1949 which made them special in my mind. Rating them, I pick the Ford number one for it's flathead V8 motor, Plymouth number two for it's details including the ripple styled bumpers that hot rodders loved for their customs and Chevy for finally getting rid of the vacuum shift which was standard from 1940 through 1948. Ford.
I would love to drive any of these at this point. In preference, Ford, Chevrolet and still adorable, Plymouth.
I vote Ford for its fresh new look and drive train, in spite of its QC issues that year. Chevy is a strong second place with much improved styling over the previous few years. Plymouth is decent enough but IMHO its styling is rather mundane compared to the others.
I have always liked Chevrolet's '49 - '52 body style. Didn't really like the Ford until '55 & '56. Didn't care for Plymouth until '64. In '49 I would have bought a Hudson.
Chevy, Ford, Plymouth
It's the cars from this era that got me hooked...Chevrolet, Ford and Plymouth by the smallest of margins.
Gents, thanks for your responses.
