I'm not a post-war Cadillac lover, but of these two, I'd take the 1949. Less bloated and just looks a little more classy.

Love both but 1951 for me.

Slam-Dunk, the '51 for me.  Much newer and sleeker looking.

I agree with David.

In addition, the 1949 had the new engine with the seminal styling from 1948. Arguably 1949 is when Cadillac truly was the Standard of the World.

Retired in Dunedin, Florida.

Looks like the trim '49 Cadillac went on a 2-year eating binge and morphed into the pudgy '51. I hope it's heading to the nearest Weight Watchers location!

I think the 51 is muscular and more representative of my idea of Cadillac.

Tough choice.  Two different eras.  Tie for me.

Both are beautiful but the innovative 1949 is, and always will be, my favorite Cadillac of them all.  Within the '49 line-up, I particularly like the Club Coupe.

Neither, just don't care for luxury boats.

While I prefer the '49, I also tend to agree with Brush above.

Two beautiful Cadillacs. I love the '49 Cadillac, I would find it difficult voting against it.

Both cars are gorgeous IMO but I prefer the crisper styling of the 49.
