I have to be honest, I was never an Imperial fan. I always thought that Chrysler was trying hard to compete with Cadillac and Lincoln, but kept trying with a Chrysler that was touted as being on par with them. The '61's Fins are weird looking and the '62 looks like they forgot the taillights and then just tacked them on the rear fenders. They look like flashlights.
If I to pick year over the other, I'll go with the '62.

I voted for the '62.
This generation of Imperial was NOT based on a "lesser" Chrysler platform. Starting with 1960 all the other Chrysler Corp. marques were built with "Unibody" construction but the Imperial was body-on-frame up to and including 1966. Fully competitive with Cadillac and Lincoln and in my opinion, had better engine, transmission, and suspension than both of them.

Slam dunk for 1961!
I've relayed the story that I carried my 1/25th AMT model of one like Linus with his blanket for a couple of years when I was 6 and 7.
Retired in Dunedin, Florida.
Actually the 62 Imperial is one of my favorites. Never cared for the fins on the 61.

Love that story, Ed! The '61 is a slam dunk for me too.
